SAE-BAJA (2018)

The rising sun at Pithampur, Indore  on 25th of Jan meant more than a usual morning. 130 teams hustling, preparing & endeavoring from last 1 year were lined up to be part of SAE BAJA 2018; a motorsport event that has been inspiring and motivating engineering students around the country for more than a decade.

The unite team of Mechanical and Production Engineering of G.B. Pant Institute of Engineering and Technology, “Team Savitar Racing” was one among the 130 teams ready to take part in the biggest motorsport bash of the country.

TSR’s creation “STORMBORN” nicely dressed in blue and white bearing the team number 31 was ready to face off the challenges awaiting at the NATRAX site in Pithampur.

TSR kicked off the event with high spirits; pits were assigned and the base was fortified. For next 3 days tuning and tweaking the buggy here and there became our regular routine, utilizing every hand to be the jack our buggy needed. A symbiotic condo between man and machine was the only sight at the pits in Pithampur.

Technical Evaluation was the first hurdle to be crossed and the team passed it without a hitch. With Baja 2018 being the very first event; TSR performed very well. In static events like Cost evaluation, Design evaluation and Sales Presentation TSR was able to give tough time even to seasoned teams.

The team and the buggy STORMBORN performed very well above the expectation at all spheres and was appreciated by various personals and teams during the event. We tried very hard for the braking event but here luck was not on our side and we were not able to lockup the four’s in stipulated time.

We sincerely thank our alumni, sponsors, faculties and the well-wishers for their continuous support.

Baja 2018 comes to an end with its valedictory function but the closing ceremony meant no end for the team. We did fall short in endurance and braking but it’s not the end, we will bounce back stronger with more energy & enthusiasm in next events. TSR’s first encounter to a competition ignited a spark among the members, its motto Grit to Greatness was redefined and a team refueled by passion and commitment was ready to take on future encounters.
